Vocational and Entrepreneurial Training for Women and Girls in Dididi Community of Kano state

Reflecting on the journey of WeCan Africa Initiative, we’re brought back to these particular scenes at Dididi Community in Kano State. It was here, following an encounter that inspired our beginning, our Founders, as student, were compelled to address the socio-economic barriers hindering women and youth.

Our first ever field engagement in 2018 was a direct response to the struggles of a young sick mother and her malnourished child, which we discovered was the effect of poverty, due to limited skills, economic opportunities, and restrictive cultural norms.

We decided to take action and we empowered 3 cohorts of 200 women and young girls with various vocational and entrepreneurial skills.

Since then, our resolve has only solidified and our efforts to rewrite this narrative have reached and impacted thousands, fostering growth and development for women and young people.
